The San Diego Legislative Reception was a huge success.  Thank you to everyone who contributed time and energy to make the event great!  Over 125 employers, CDSA members, elected officials and their staff mixed and mingled over informative displays and tasty appetizers.

 

Tour guides for the evening led officials though the tabletop displays of local members and reviewed key facts, data and issues. Members and staff answered question and local officials seized the opportunity to recognize the evening’s honorees – CDSA’s Excellence in Employment Award recipients: Dawn Lee Schlieder - Von’s, First Transit, On the Border and UC San Diego Food Services.

Last year, Dawn started employing a group of TMI consumers in the Eastlake Vons group. When she returned from maternity leave, she was transferred to the El Cajon store where she started employing another group. Dawn is a strong advocate for individuals with disabilities!

First Transit
First Transit has recently partnered with The Arc to open a Group SE site in Oceanside to detail the interior of the city busses. After one month of service, they agreed to partner again with another Group SE site in Escondido. First Transit is now considering partnering on a third site where The Arc would detail the paratransit vehicles in San Diego.

On The Border
Four of the local restaurants in San Diego County have employed more than 12 individuals with developmental disabilities performing front-of-the-house duties and food preparation. Their commitment to hiring individuals with developmental disabilities has paved the way for other businesses similar to On the Border to step up and employ individuals doing similar tasks.

Meeting on the Links - CDSA Golf Outing
