Subject: Group Supported Employment Placements
Good Morning Everyone,
This e-mail is being sent to put you on notice that I will no longer be approving new group proposals that are on your site. All group proposals approved after today must be totally community based with an outside employer. Historically, we have approved on-site groups in janitorial, landscaping, food services, and other employment areas if they met the criterion for group supported employment placement. Many of these types of group placements have benefited our consumers and in many cases lead to placements with either a community base supported employment group or an individual placement. Not all of you have these types of supported employment groups nor have you requested the approval of these types of groups. Previously approved on-site groups will not be terminated and are not affected by this action.
The Work Services Section of the Department of Developmental Disabilities has requested that we stop approving on-site supported employment groups. The section does not feel these types of groups truly meet the community based criterion of supported employment.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this action, please contact me. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
