Message from the Executive Director
Your membership in CDSA is critical to CDSA’s success in 2015-16.
The challenges just keep coming! CDSA has worked in public hearings and out of the public eye to ensure pressure continues for funding of services, a new rate structure, and closure of the developmental centers. We sponsored or co-sponsored eight bills this year, addressing rates, closure of the developmental centers, state employment for people with developmental disabilities, public accommodation standards, and state implementation of the ABLE Act.
We participated in the DDS Advisory Group for the HCBS Transition Plan, Secretary Dooley’s Developmental Services Task Force, and meetings on implementing DC Task Force recommendations. We’re tracking the steps toward implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act at both the state level (with the memorandum of understanding between three state departments and Disability Rights California) and at the national level, where five sets of proposed rules are now being vetted.
We continued our collaboration with 18 other organizations on the Lanterman Coalition, supporting the “10 Campaign”, met regularly with the Association of Regional Center Agencies, and coordinated our lobbying efforts with the Arc of California, California Supported Living Network, California Respite Association, and many others.
There hasn’t been a year with this many rings operating in the policy circus for providers. That’s why you need to be fully informed, and we need your voice. Don’t be left out of the conversation about what’s happening and how to anticipate changes in your services!
Your membership in CDSA will make a difference!
We have the power to move our agenda forward because of your membership—because of the powerful statistics our total membership presents. CDSA speaks on behalf of 90 providers, with some 17,000 staff serving 45,000 clients. Every member contributes to the weight of constituents we bring to discussions with legislators.
Your dues ensure that we are working on your behalf and keeping you informed year ’round. Your dues fund the delivery of our messages through our two lobbyists, CDSA Government Affairs Director Sue North and Grayling’s Carl London. Your dues support the communications system that produces charts and graphs on budgets, legislative updates, and newsletters. We need your commitment for 2015-16 so CDSA can continue providing the advocacy, communications, and training you depend on.
